Letter sent to MA parents on October 3, 2007 from Olivia Hails, President of H.E.A.R.T.

Dear Academy Parents:

This past summer Julia Ann Starke (Class of '06) traveled to Africa on a mission trip for four weeks. During her stay in Africa, she had the chance to work with children from orphanages located in the villages of Ewuaso and Kibera. With inspiration from Julia's trip, Lundy Starke, a senior H.E.A.R.T. member, and I are planning H.E.A.R.T.'s first fundraiser for the 2007-2008 school year. We will be collecting various items for the next two weeks to send to these children in Africa. Julia Ann has informed me of all the items that are really needed. They walk barefoot to school, carrying their books without bags. Their hygiene is minimal, due to lack of things such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. Listed below are the needed items. Please encourage your children to participate. The Starke Agency will be sponsoring our fundraiser to cover shipping costs, but please remember any money donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated. I am hoping that with all of your help we can really change the lives of many children so far away from us who are in such dire need. There will be labeled boxes located on each MA campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Lundy or me.

List of Needed Items

Flip Flops
Backpacks
Toothbrushes
Toothpaste
Dental Floss
Any children's clothes
Socks

Thanks for your help.
